Maui Gay Pride Loses It's Voice In Print

Aloha everyone. As you may or may not have heard, the long running print forum of maui's GLBT community, Out In Maui, has ceased operations. Gone are the days of being able to grab the paper and get a nice little slice of Maui laid out for our leisurely perusal. I don't know about the rest of you, but I already feel that there is a void where Out In Maui use to be.

Yes, it was not the LA Times, but it was a very good representation of Maui in general, with all it's quirky charm and sometimes amazing meld of down-home country and worldy sophistication, often side-by-side.

Although I am not privy to all the gory detaills, I get the impression that the paper folded more from lack of support in the way of interest and volunteers; sheer MAN-power than simple lack of funds.

It is my understanding that Both Sides Now is alive and well and still operating as it has in the past.

I do not know if this turn of events is deemed to be permanent, or if there is hope of reviving the publication in the future. I, for one, would be thrilled to see OIM live again. In the meantime I would like to say 2 things.

First, if anyone has any information about the current status or the future of Out In Maui, please let me know so i can let all of us know through the mauipride.com web site.

Secondly, I would like to make sure that the individuals involved with the paper know that they will always be welcome to publish electronically here on the web site, even if it is not accompanied by a printed version.

I will post any and all information, comments or suggestions here on the web site as they are received. Send messages to MauiChub@mauipride.com.

In the meantime, my thoughts and energies go out to all who are involved. Though many may see this as a failure, I say Bravo! for having kept the ball rolling for so long. There were many obstacles at every turn, and the little paper that could persevered despite it all.

Congratulations are extended to all involved from mauipride.com. Good work. NOW LET'S BRING BACK OUT IN MAUI!!!
